Home Office Remodel Part 2

Friends, it's time to wrap up our home office renovation, and I am so happy to share it with you. Part 1 of this remodel project you can find here. (It is all about the DIY plywood flooring.)

This room will be used for reading, studying, blogging and much more. A place where our family can work or just be together, and maybe even play a few board games.

The biggest part of this room remodel was tackling this large wall of built ins & window seat. Here I used Ikea base cabinets and bookcases to achieve this custom look. I have to give Google, YouTube, and Pinterest much credit here. A quick search on any of those sites for "Ikea hack built ins" and voila! So... thank you internet peeps!

The first job was putting together the Ikea cabinets and bookcases. (Ted "watched".) Then, I built a simple platform using 2 x 4's, securing these to the floor. After those were installed, I set the cabinets on to the platforms and attached them all using wood screws. Making sure the platforms and cabinets were level as I went. To save on countertop costs, I used 1/2 inch plywood and attached to base cabinets. Once the trim was on, they take on the appearance as the rest of the cabinetry and no one would ever be the wiser. ;)

The next important step was using trim to achieve a more custom look to the basic bookcases and cabinets. The trim really takes this project to another level and makes all the difference. I used the brad nailer to attach all of the pieces, then filled with wood filler/ spackle, caulked, and finished it off with a coat of paint. (The paint was matched from one of the cabinet doors by Sherwin Williams.)

I had so much fun decorating this space. I wanted to keep it simple but also make it warm & inviting. ;) Keeping in mind, the men in our home out number me 3 to 1, I like to give each space a touch of masculinity so they feel at home & comfortable.

Well, I guess 4 to 1 if you count Ted.
