Strength. Maybe you guys don't struggle with it like I do... No, I'm not talking about weightlifting and gym membership commercials either. Lol! No, I'm referring to strength to live life courageously. Strength to press on and do the hard things. Strength to finish well. Strength to face different trials that we may encounter. Strength to face fear, anxiety, health problems, depression, grief, financial issues, and all kinds of concerns that life may throw at us. God addresses in scripture our need for strength, our weakness, and need for Him.
"God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear,
Even though the earth be removed,
And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though its waters roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with its swelling."
I read this passage and find confidence that first of all, He is our strength. For us that know Him, this is our truth. If you haven't come to know Him but want to know who God is, you can find out more here.
"He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength."
"But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint."
(Isaiah 40: 29, 31)
Waiting on Him produces strength. We may not want to (I may know from experience) but there is strength found through endurance. We remember those times. We gain from the waiting period, the hardships. Knowing that Christ has been through the trial right along side us and brought us through.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
This is one of my favorite verses because I can rest in Him. Knowing it's about His strength holding us up, not our own. We can do the hard things. This may be a whispered prayer when we're facing something great or even what we think is small in our lives. His shoulders are ready to carry what we cannot.
The Proverbs 31 woman will always be a symbol of strength in my mind. I like to think that God put her in scripture to show us a picture of someone who has made it a habit of honoring The Lord and drawing strength from Him daily.
"Strength and honor are her clothing;
She shall rejoice in time to come."
I hope this word study on strength encouraged you today, as it has me. I want to leave you with one last verse. Also, one of my favorites.
"This is my command, be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go."
What are you facing today...? Can I pray for you?
Father, we thank you for your Word today. We praise you and know that you have a plan for us to live our lives courageously when our foundation is built upon You. We draw strength from You, knowing that You will be faithful to see us through whatever life may bring. We love you Lord. I pray that those that may need a special touch from You today might have confidence to know that You love them and will carry them through.
In Jesus Precious Name, Amen
